Fishers wildlife control tip of the month:

What should I do if I find a nest of squirrels in the attic?

So one day you decide to put something up in your attic and you notice that there is a spot where there seems to be a buildup of insulation and cloth. You think that is really odd, so you decide to get a little closer look. You get close enough and realize that you have squirrels living in your attic. This has turned your dream home into a house of horrors.

You want to get these critters out of your home as quickly as possible, but that is not always the easiest chore for Fishers animal trapping to do. You just know you need them out and you want them out right away. If this is what you are looking for then here are some quick steps to get them out.

First you want to go outside and look for the ways that the squirrel is getting into your home. This can be through cracks, loose siding, breaks, broken boards, or rain causing seals to become dislodged. This gives the squirrel a way in. The most important part is to realize that you cannot just find the one spot and stop. There could be other places that it is getting in, so you want to check to see if there are more. If you find more than one, close up and seal all but the largest hole. You want to make sure that you provide the easiest possible way to get out of the home. This will ensure that this is true.

Once you have done this the next step is for Fishers animal control to scare them away. This begins by putting a large lamp in the attic that has as bright of a bulb as possible. If possible, also run a speaker or large boom box into it. What you are looking for is something that will make a lot of noise.

As it starts to hit dawn you want to crank on that light to startle the animal or animals and turn on the music as well. This should terrify the squirrel or squirrels and get them frantically running toward that hole. Fishers wildlife removal may use the sound of predator animals that they play over the stereo and that is fine. Just make sure it is something that is loud and will startle them. Once they have run out, go outside and make sure that you seal up the hole or entryway. You want to keep them from returning so you don't have to call Fishers animal control.
